“Haven’t Met You Yet” by Michael Bublé is a very popular song about a guy who knows there is a great love out there for him, but he just has not met the girl yet. I think one of the reasons this song is so popular is that it rings a great truth in our hearts. It tells us that there is something better for us, that there is something that can fill this sort of void in us; some great love that can change our lives and fill us with joy. It gives us hope.
What this song and the world teach is that we will be happy when we get that right guy or girl. Although I love my wife dearly and she brings me happiness, I still need more. The void in my heart cannot be filled by my wife or any woman for that matter. It can only be filled by the giver of all life, of all love, and of all mercy. Jesus is the one who can fill us with joy. And sadly, many people, many Christians, many Catholics, have just not met Him yet. We need to stop filling ourselves with things of this world and fill ourselves with the love of Jesus. As St. Augustine said so beautifully, “You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it rests in you.”
So today take some time to meet with Jesus and let him fill your heart with His love.
